Monarchs at state championship
The Papillion-La Vista Monarchs lost 4-3 to Lincoln Southwest in the Class A state softball championship on Friday in Hastings.
The Monarchs were vying for their 13th Class A title and almost pulled it off when Alexis Glessman hit a solo homer to put her team ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning. But a two-run home in the top of the sixth by Monica Knabe proved to be the difference in the game.
The Monarchs’ road to the championship game was not easy as they had to win twice on Friday in order to set up the championship match. They defeated Lincoln Southwest 6-1 in that contest, but failed to pull off the sweep in the final match. The Monarchs finish with a 35-3 record.
