Brown to lead Bruin golf

Bellevue University has taken the first step in building successful golf programs with the hiring of Rob Brown as its first coach.
BU’s inaugural men’s and women’s golf seasons will begin in the fall of 2011 but the Bruins have gotten an early jump with the hiring of Brown.
“I look forward to building the golf program at Bellevue University and including golf as part of the great winning traditions Bellevue has established in all of its sports,” Brown said in a statement released by the university.
A native of Omaha, Brown has taught and been a professional golfer for nearly 40 years, spending the past year teaching golf in South America and working with former PGA great Al Gieberger.
Brown served as the Director of Instruction at Stone Eagle Golf Club in Palm Desert, Calif. for the past five years.
Prior to that he was director and head professional golfer at Wakonda Golf Club in Des Moines from 1993-2004 and Minikahda Golf Club in Minneapolis from 1978-1989.
An accomplished golfer, Brown was the 2008 Nebraska Senior PGA champion and qualified for the 1997 U.S. Senior Open and the 1996 PGA Senior Championship.
He was a five-time Iowa PGA Senior champion and captured the 1995 Iowa State Open and was the Senior player of the Year for the 1995 season.
